Stayed back with the team till 11 plus, fly cab home and slept at 12 plus and woke up at 0545hrs today for morning duty
But still happy coz the entire team is great. Great Scrub! (:

Today the same team did a case and i m the scrub
Its totally hillarious to see 2 reg concentrating disecting away while the others stood and tried their arden best to keep their eye lids open... the other 2 students do their nodding rituals... those who are awake and concentrating are the ones who stayed back yest...including me. isnt that funny? Lol

The boss is still trying very hard to dig ans -_____-
First... he tot i m single
Next he saw me and a friend and excitedly thought that it was someone i refused to admit as my bf and cant stop chasing for answer
Today my colleague said: aiya she gt bf already lar u still dono ah
That statement left The boss puzzled and more curious!
Now he thought that i ve 2 bf secretly behind the two guy back... WTH!
That starts him on a brand new set of qns... no matter how i explain it still sounds wrong...-__-

I almost got knock down by a taxi this morning while gg to work...stupid taxi was speeding

I ran about in my N95 mask, theatre super warm and i guess i breathe back too much C02 and while helping to drape the microscope i was so breathless that i wanted to puke and feels faint...

Thankgod everything was settled and i went out for a breather

Ate carrot cake and almost choke a huge piece of it cause i m too breathless

Drag myself home and almost trip and fell along the road....

What the hell is wrong with today man!!!!!

Ve been feeling very tired and very hungry all the time... wonder if there is anything wrong??

Am pretty irritated with fellow peps of the same line thinking that my job is way simpler than theirs...

Honestly... its way different from what you see in attachement... there are ppl from "outside" who came in with a mind set of wanting a "simpler life" ...tried for a few months and didnt make it.... there are also peps who came from "outside" and is still working a few years with us who agreed that its definitely not easy as what they had imagine to be before they came in...

You ppl are so wrong... if you think its easy... come in and see and work for yourself and stop thinking that only what you are doing out there is really the most "superior"

Back from my night shift

Its a terrible terrible night shift to start off with...

Once i walk in... Priority 1 craniotomy....done one side... left side still pending cranio...

Prayed hard pt after CT scan go to ICU...

Damn came back to do the second side.....

Another theatre running AAA.. -.-"

Toook the cranio case.... my second time doing only... no choice no other ppl do liao

Someone's presence stress the hell out of me and i actually broke the syringe while fixing the injection needle on it... lol...

Before the craniotomy even finish.... There is a neuro spine Priority 1 in line.... aarggh

Rushed with my colleague to prepare the Neuro case... great job both not from neuro... lol... read cardex and follow instruction to prepare

Finally after a series of rushing all things are in place... spinal table ready.... waiting for pt to come...

Then came another PRIORITY ONE ECTOPIC PREGNANCY!

*faints...

Did that case... run that case for my colleagues since she nv do before....

After that case, did neuro and came another Lap appendix....

*Lie flat on the ground....

But at the end of the day... we found ourselve laughing and in a great mood...

Ppl tot we were having a great night with no cases...lol

In fact... we were "woken up" by so many Priority 1s that the "excitement" just wont died down...

And me and two of my colleague got ourselve a good coffee bean breakfast as a treat for ourselve for the hardwork yest hees

The whole night is fun! =p

Me: Oh we are doing AVG... why you want to scrub? haha

Nurse: NO LA! I only know how to do Ortho case

Me: *silence

Excuse me you mean Ortho nurses are limited to doing Ortho cases?

Can i say i only know how to do ENT cases?

Next classic example:

Me: Hey what case are u all doing here?

Nurse: Oh laproscopic appendix

Me: oh okay

Nurse: you know how to do

Me: ya i know ah... common case

NUrse: oh is it? i dono how to do leh

If you do not know how to do, all the more YOU SHOULD DO RIGHT! i should be circulating for u!

Today my boss treated us to strawberry cream cheese

Except that the strawberry cream cheese comes out from an extremely extensive neck abscess

Strawberry cream cheese = pus pus and alot alot alot of pus!!!! Mix with blood of coz

Its really alot alot of pus... endless

1st hr... get rid of outer layer.... pus pus pus

2nd hr.... still getting rid of pus

3rd hr... still got pocket... pus again... zzz

Took us close to 4 hrs to clear the neck abscess... or rather neck dissection

Nearly half of the neck is gone.... looks like we will ve a flap case coming up soon.

Really happy to scrub for my boss... haven scrub for his case for a long time

Whenever there is an 'E' case(other than FB)... they will all come down together in a team to do the case together.. irregardless of whoever consultant is incharge of the case.

Am proud to be in my discipline =)

And my boss haven "let me off" yet... he is still "pestering" me for answers lol! and he ask me:

boss: "how long ago since u r in sec sch?"
me: Wei i not very old okay!! even though i look old

Some ppl are deployed to the triage to help... some to KRW...

Anyway... first day back to work...

Heres my routine today:

0800hrs

- Wear the stupid N95 mask....
- Check through list of the day, check patient
- Called my surgeon, Called my anaesthetist to review patient
- Case cancelled.... patient bad flu...
- Called surgeon, called ward, called recovery... inform inform inform
- Go for mask fitting...so many ppl... walk back again
- End up at Emergency theatre to help....
- Circulate...
- Call surgeon
-Answer surgeon's endless phone call
- Answer theatre...yet again... endless phone call
- Surgeon stupid phone ring again... this time two phone together...
- Arrange next case
- Sent patient out...
- Prepare instruments for next case
- Wear the stupid PPE, running around....
- Wear the stupid PPE again... this time N95 not enough must add face shield... send patient to ICU
- Get theatre ready for next E-case.... prepare to scrub....
- Scrub for tracheostomy
- Wear gown, Stupid N95+ faceshield....
- Almost suffocated in the double mask and under Hot OT light... cant imagine if i were to wear an II gown...
- Case finish, wash instruments... next case is sent again
- Circulate....
- Instruments not in place... run..Run... RUN!
- Answered alot of stupid phonecalls again and took alot of notes...
- Patient BP plunge!!!
- Put on PPE sent pt to ICU again...
- Circulate for next case again....
1800 hrs... end duty....

Of cos this is only a summarised version...

I officially hate the combination of N95 mask and fluid shield.... i ve to breathe thru my mouth... hard like a gold fish...nausea also...

And we all look like ninja turtle.... hahaha

Thank god AD pager nv sound today..... fast paced today... but fun!

Its good to be back at work again... in a way....

I read it thru thoroughly...

The questions set by the "examiner" are very straight forward ...

But the answers given are tricky...with alot of twist and turn...

However i manage to understand them...

On leave for one week alrdy.... time really pass when you are enjoying yourself. Am trying to meet up as many ppl as possible this time round, so still queing la the list =p

Hmm this week... i ve spent time with my mum, visit my little niece victoria, meet up with jing chyehock alvin.

and i am going away today.... for one day... shall not mention where.

so i have one more week left... and i still have not meet cedric minglee and dionne. haha this time its not me who is the one who need one week advance appointment =P

so i meet up yest with Mr potato(cannot anyhow write name now hahaha) ...gave him that name yest since he is a "kan dan"...oh yes and half a woman living in him haha.

Seeing the final batch of ngee ann students in OT bidding farewell to me reminds me of myself one year ago during my PRCP days...

Just that my time was way pathetic..... i was the only NP student going to OT during the last two weeks of attachment... that kind of culture shock was beyond description...

But still... i know i will love that kinda life... i just tell myself to give it a shot... no.. i don wanna go back to paeds again...

Now... 1 year later... i look at my juniors...saying goodbye to me, telling me that they are going back to school tml....

That strucks me...tml? how come it sounds so familiar... it seems like i just went back to school yesterday, handing over my PDAs, filling up survey forms.... meeting up with friends whom i have not met since our last tutorials... excitements were filling the entire lecture hall....

That doesnt sounds too far away...

And now the second batch of Ngee Ann nurses are graduating soon...

Starting out as a fresh grad is hard... those tough times... struggles... adapting to surrounding... it wasnt easy at all....

Honestly... now that i have settled... i really love my job now... as a OT nurse... all the excitements and adrenaline rush everyday is a common routine for me...

Once my senior told me.... Love your job and you wont have to work every single day.

Thats so true.

All the best to the coming second batch of junior NP nurses =) Hope you guys will have a bright future in the healthcare industry.

Talk about bad economy, no pay raise, TPM....

My MC record is good enough to put me in the top choice under retrenchment list if i m not in my current industry...

Yet again... if i m not in my current industry i wont be sick so often...

Since i came back from my AL..

1) i ve done two 24hrs on-call and am proud of it

2) Had my first bazaar showcasing my design at The Cathay... really cool... will do it again soon

3) Witness a record of 3 mysteriously missing gauze incident

4) Sang KTV with sec sch mates (chye hock, chuan yong, yida and hmm i forgot his name again) and had a really great time catching up

5) i am not longer the junior in my department.... i have another junior =X

Anyway... i had my eyes on a number of stuff that i wanna get... hees.... wait till bonus come wakaka =D

Have to clarify my blog title before some ppl tot otherwise haha

On called on saturday....

A surprise one...

Brother called me early in the morning when i was preparing to go out

And the first thing he said was "Wei ying xian why u nv pick up ur phone"

And all i answered him was "err who are u?"

And before i could figure out who that familiar voice was... i was asked to come back to start on call

Panicked, put down the phone, whine abt it, packed my bag, pack my toiletries, talk to sham while she prepared me what to expect and dragged myself to work...

felt like a nightmare come true man

wah lao nv expect my first call to be like this lor.......

BUt nvm lar... .luck those ppl with me are very very nice =D

At least get to sleep for 4 hours(didnt really slp) out of the 24 hours... not so bad lar

Secretly Cried at work, cried after work, don dare to go home after crying, seat at the park talking to dionne and cry again....mom asked me wat happen, told her what happen and she told me all jobs are the same -.-", Gave up. miserable all week... feeling stress up all weekend, cant enjoy myself properly.... Tot of quiting but no money to quit

That basically sum up my few months of work...

i had enough!

This week was ok.... felt better... working harder... trying to prove myself... Drs treat me better, got one compliment....thats all but better than nth...

i hope next week will be even better....

I told HIM today.... guys ve to serve national service, girls should serve health care service

To work two years in nursing....

Then ppl will understand and treat nurses better instead of thinking its an easy job

I seriously feel as thoungh i am serving national service....

Honestly, its time to grow up

And i dont mean it in a sarcastic way... i meant well... really

Its not abt the little things, certain things are built up over the years

Ppl gets tired of repeating the same thing over and over again

ONe day they will just give up.

As far as i do not wish to....

It really does gets tiring..

letting go is more painful than being given up.

Doctors.... whats so cool about them?

There are ppl who join our line in the hope to meet one and you know....hopefully date one of them

Please.... i have lost half my respect to these ppl....

How will you feel if they totally do not respect you as a human, judging from the facts that you are a newcomer?

Have you not been a newcomer before?

I applause for you if thats the case

I am sorry to say... if you do not respect one as an individual, nobody will respect you

I always told myself that i do not necessarily treat other ppl the same way as how they treat me... as long as i prove myself to be sincere then one day i will prove them wrong

But some ppl really dont deserve being treated nicely

I have been stress-ed since i dont rmb when...

Its only building up.... and i feel that i no longer feels like talking much anymore....you just feel like seating alone and feel miserable on your own... away from any existing human

I may have forgotten about all these depressing stuff for a while, when i am out and enjoying myself a little

BUt once i am back home.... everything comes back

I wont be surprise if i stop talking one day

It totally upset me when ppl do comparison...

Especially blind comparison

E.g: Why A can like that u cannot like that, A also work in this sector u also work this sector why A can like that u cannot....why why why

Instead of asking ppl why, asking oneself why will be more meaningful isnt it?

When making a comparison, please listen to yourself

Its just like as though ur boyfriend try to compare u and their ex-gf, how will u like that?

And fighting their way to be logical when they are not (cause they fail to look at the exterior part of the circle, what they see are just within)

In such scenario, arguing will not lead to any conclusion, working life ve taught me alot of things.... if u ve make an effort to explain and the conclusion is still the same, why bother? Fighting for ur own right? Nah... forget it

Its tiring

Its either they understand or they dont... simple.

Talking will only works when the other is listening

I met the nicest surgeon i can ever met today

So nice that i even chat with him during surgery

But i heard he is leaving nxt week...

Sigh

Oh ya...another thing
